Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about surf lessons at Playa de Frexulfe.

Do I need any previous experience for a surf lesson?

No, you don't need any previous experience. Most of our students start from scratch and we adapt each lesson to your level. Our qualified instructors stay with you from your first wave at Playa de Frexulfe.

What should I bring to a surf lesson?

Just swimwear, a towel, and enthusiasm. We provide the board, wetsuit, instruction and a qualified instructor. On sunny days, bring sunscreen and water too.

Do I need to know how to swim to surf?

Yes — being able to swim is essential to take part safely, since lessons take place in the water.

From what age can you surf? Is there an age limit?

Surf is a sport for all ages, because we adapt to each person's level, age and fitness, with the right instructor and board for kids, adults and seniors. We teach children and run camps and family plans. The recommended minimum age depends on each child's level and height, so message us on WhatsApp and we'll confirm it. You'll find the price of kids and family lessons on the Prices page.

How much does a surf lesson at Frexulfe cost?

Our lessons are among the most affordable on the coast and include board, wetsuit, instruction and a qualified instructor. Group lessons run 2 hours, and there are private lessons and better-value packages if you come back. See current prices on the Prices page.

When is the best time to surf at Frexulfe?

Summer is the best time to learn, with a calmer sea, and we're open every day. Autumn brings more consistent waves for those looking to progress. In Northern Spain you surf in a wetsuit all year round.

What happens if the weather is bad or there are no waves?

Surfing depends on the sea. If conditions aren't right or safe, we reschedule your lesson for another day, no problem. If you need to cancel, contact us as soon as possible and we'll find the best solution.

Can I surf while walking the Camino de Santiago?

Yes. The Camino del Norte (the coastal route) passes near the Frexulfe coast in Navia, so you can pause between stages, take a surf lesson as an extra experience and then rejoin the Camino. Message us and we'll fit the lesson into your route.

Where do we meet?

At Playa de Frexulfe (Frejulfe), in Navia, western Asturias. We send the exact meeting point when you book. There's free parking, lockers, and showers.
